One of the first things I noticed about my Introduction to PHP and MySQL class is the amount of people that are enrolled. My Ruby on Rails class has 12 students enrolled, whereas, this PHP and MySQL class has 60 students enrolled. Not sure what the reason for the noticeable difference in class size is.

Just like in my Ruby on Rails class, we were also asked in my PHP and MySQL class to introduce ourselves to the class this week.

Here are some of the reasons my classmates gave for taking this class:

  • Really into affiliate marketing and want to develop dynamic sites.
  • Starting a web-based company and want to be able to make changes.
  • Need to add databases to the site I maintain for an organization.
  • Maintain racing site and WordPress doesn’t entirely suit needs.
  • Using the Joomla platform got me interested in PHP and SQL.
  • Want to create custom themes in WordPress, as well as, build CMS.
  • Experience with XHTML, CSS, Javascript & Flash.
  • Took 10 years off from corporate life and am wanting to go back.
  • Need to automate web testing at work.
  • Laid off (programmer) and want to learn a more marketable language.
  • Frustrated with 3rd party vendors who overcharge me & don’t deliver.
  • Goal is to one day sit on a beach and develop websites.
  • Unemployed (Network Tech) so thought why not learn a new language.
  • Did Computer Graphics, out for a few years, updating skills.
  • Recently got out of the Navy and switched career paths.
  • Unemployed (SQA Analyst - 10yrs), possibly changing career.
  • Position eliminated (worked all my life in System Test/Black box testing).
  • Software Engineer. Studio closed. Now starting my own company.
  • Want to help my husband’s business by maintaining the website.
  • Want to give captains of local sports club the ability to log game results.
  • Employer is paying for on the job training classes.
